And here are our two most Popular Lavenders: Lavandula × chaytoriae ‘Sawyers’ and Lavandula x intermedia ‘Grosso’…
#2 Lavender Imperial Gem (Lavandula Angustifolia ‘Imperial Gem’)
Another 1980s cultivar, Lavender Imperial Gem is low growing, compact and graced by grey/green foliage and beautiful, dark violet flowers spraying outwards. It also heralds the start of the Lavender season as it is one of the first varieties to flower in late May – perhaps another reason it is favoured over Hidcote.
#1 Lavender Grosso (Lavandula x intermedia ‘Grosso’)
Our most popular Lavender is, in many ways, the opposite to the variety nipping at its heels – bushy, vigorous and tall, it is one of the last of the Lavenders to flower (around August) and takes the Lavender season into September when its open, light blue/violet and fragrant flowers will still be adding colour to the garden.
• If you choose just two or three different varieties, you can ensure your garden will be host to flowering Lavender from mid-May to the end of September.
• Since compiling this list of our most Popular Lavenders, we have introduced two additional varieties – Lavandula angustifolia ‘Maillette’ and Lavandula × chaytoriae ‘Sawyers’ – which will no doubt feature when the list is updated
