About Lavender Intermedia (Dutch) Plants
All Lavandula x intermedia varieties are hybrids between Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula latifolia, itself a strongly scented, broad-leafed species native to the western Mediterranean. Hybridization between the two species occurs naturally.
Lavandula x intermedia varieties are particularly popular with Lavender lovers as they are late flowering and so extend the Lavender season into autumn. Their flowers are also noted for their larger size and like most Lavenders, the plants prefer a neutral-alkaline soil but will tolerate acidic conditions.
The group includes many of the most striking Lavandula varieties including Lavandula x intermedia ‘Alba’, the proven favourite of the handful of white Lavenders available.
The flowering period is from July to September.
