Currently at Hedge Xpress we have 15% off evergreen rootballed hedging if you spend over £590.00 on pre ordered rootballs.

Hedge Xpress is based in Bampton, Oxfordshire nestled on the edge of the Cotswolds.

Rootballs are lifted from field stock and wrapped in hessian with the exception of Yew, which we insist is wrapped in wire. The wire is to reduce potential disturbance to the roots as they are more fragile than the other two. This holds the soil to the roots and these can be planted between the end of November and March, creating a much cheaper alternative to the traditional container/potted hedge.

Rootballs do come with some disadvantages. The major one you need to consider is the fact that as the soil is generally a bit loose, it fails to come with an established root system. This can lead to transplant shock where the plant can suffer and take a while to establish or loss.

Container/pot grown plants are quicker to establish, generally having much lower loss rates.

Rootballs will need monitoring and looking after until they are established.

Current hedging we offer in rootballed format include: Portuguese laurel (Prunus lusitanica Angustifolia); Yew (Taxus baccata); and Leylandii (Cuprocyparis leylandii).
