We are pleased to introduce plants grown using the revolutionary and proven growing system called Air-Pot. Think of it as very clever bubble wrap made out of semi-rigid, but pliable, recycled plastic. The material can be shaped to create a wide range of containers including small pots, large containers and, as we have chosen, troughs in which several plants (ours contain four) are grown together.
While these Lavenders are our first Air-Pot plants, the system has been developed, proven and further improved over a number of years. We are using the sixth and latest generation of Air-Pot. Such is its success that, for example, every single tree planted for the landscaping of London’s 2012 Olympic Park started life in an Air-Pot. And, also in London, the nursery at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew is now growing over 2,500 species of plants in Air-Pots.
Perhaps the main benefit of the Air-Pot system is that it makes the plant develop a mass of healthy, fibrous roots that, in turn, absorb nutrients and water to maximum effect. This produces healthier, faster growing plants
This is primarily down to the unique shape of the Air-Pot material that eliminates root circling and so generates such healthy root development
The Air-Pot also helps oxygenate the growing medium, leading to healthy bacteria and better nutrient release
Air-Pots provide optimum drainage so the risks of waterlogging and water damage are all but eradicated
Instant edging for domestic gardens, landscaping projects and property developments
Because the four plants in our Lavender trough grow together, their roots intertwine. This means you simply have to dig a single trench rather than four separate holes. Follow the standard planting technique (click HERE for our guide) and place the four plants into the trough as one. It really is that simple – and effective – whether you want an instant border in your own garden or need to landscape a property development quickly and cost-effectively.
Your plants stay in their Air-Pot trough until immediately before dispatch when they are gently and easily removed and then prepared for safe, secure delivery or collection.
The pictures below (taken in 2015) demonstrate just how successful the Air-Pot system is and we are delighted to make it available to our customers alongside our traditional container-grown plants. If you have any questions about our troughs, please do get in touch.
