About Ceratostigma plumbaginoides

Hardy plumbago is a first-rate late-season ground cover. Through summer it forms a low mat of neat green leaves, then from late summer into autumn it opens clusters of intense electric-blue flowers.

As the flowers fade the foliage takes on rich red and bronze tints, so it earns its place twice over. The spreading habit knits together to suppress weeds on borders, slopes and rockeries.

Give it a warm spot in full sun or light shade and any free-draining soil. It is drought-tolerant once established and cuts back hard in spring to reshoot.
