Astrantia major (Greater Masterwort) is a truly robust herbaceous perennial with striking whitish, with a hint of green and pink flowers and deep green leaves which splits in to 3 to 5, native to central and eastern Europe. They are an adaptable being able to survive in both full sun and partial shade and are hardy throughout most of the most severe UK and European temperatures with a RHS hardiness rating of H7 meaning they can survive temperatures to well below -20C. When positioning, it prefers moist soils but can tolerate drier ones and plant in a sheltered  or exposed position. This is often done best in the middle or front of a flower bed.

Astrantia major (Greater Masterwort) is known for being great for local wildlife, its flowers are rich in nectar and pollen attracting insects, bees and birds alike. It has no toxic to pets, horses, livestock or people.

Astrantia major (Greater Masterwort) is generally low maintenance, simply cut back after it flowers in early summer to get new foliage growing through and a second flush of flowers. These flowers are often used in bouquets due to their beauty.
