A dense, rounded evergreen with small, glossy dark-green leaves that make a neat, low hedge up to about a metre, or a tidy specimen and border shrub.
From late spring it produces clusters of tubular red flowers that keep coming through summer and draw in bees and butterflies.
Tough and adaptable, it tolerates salt spray and wind, making it a fine choice for coastal and exposed gardens. Grow in sun or partial shade in free-draining soil.
