About Lavender ‘Bee Zee White’

Description

Lavender ‘Bee Zee White’ (Lavandula angustifolia ‘‘Bee Zee White’) is a compact, dwarf lavender reaching 35cm with fragrant, large white flower spikes in summer.  Its foliage is linear and evergreen, starting life green and then ages, as most of us do to become a bit greyer… becoming grey-green. It makes for the perfect partitioning  hedge or addition to the front of any border, rockery or Mediterranean garden.

Like all lavenders Lavender ‘Bee Zee White’ (Lavandula angustifolia ‘‘Bee Zee White’) needs well drained soil and full sun. Contrary to what most people believe, Lavenders love water, but just do not love sitting it. Think of it as they love a shower, but hate a bath. Once established, they have fairly deep roots in comparison to their size, making them more drought tolerant.

Lavender ‘Bee Zee White’ (Lavandula angustifolia ‘‘Bee Zee White’) is great for the birds and the bees. Being abundant in flowers, high in nectar they attract inspectors and pollinators alike.

Pruning

Cut back into new growth in Autumn to open up the foliage for airflow. This helps to avoid shab (the grey, fungal die back) amongst other things.

Hardiness

RHS Hardiness H5: hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters (-15 to -10)

Exposure

Position Lavender ‘Bee Zee White’ (Lavandula angustifolia ‘‘Bee Zee White’) in a sheltered position.

Purchasing a plant

When purchasing a plant it is essential to give it the best chance of survival or it can prove expensive. Put the roots in water until it no longer bubbles. This means it is fully saturated, then place in the hole. Make sure it is 1cm or 2cm proud, this means less digging and it helps with drainage. Break up the soil around the hole to help the roots grow out.
