About Lavender Phenomenal

Description

Lavender ‘Phenomenal’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Phenomenal’) is a truly stunning evergreen, scented shrub to 75cm width and height, flowering mid to late summer.   It has violet blue flowers and  Silvery-grey narrow leaves growing up to 75cm in height and width. There misconceptions about lavender, one is that it hates water. From experience this is not strictly true. It just hates sitting in it. What this means in practice is that lavender needs to be in well drained soil. You can help mitigate this by planting the shrub proud or slightly raised. This helps with drainage. You can also put compost around the sides of the rootball. This will help with the drainage.

Lavender ‘Phenomenal’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Phenomenal’) is an intermedia variety. This is a cross between Lavandula Angustifolia (English or narrow leafed lavender) and Lavandula latifolia (Wide leafed lavender). This means it is hardier than the usual varieties and has a RHS hardiness rating of H5 meaning it can survive temperatures down to -10 to -15C. Therefore, it is hardy through most parts of the UK.

Lavender ‘Phenomenal’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Phenomenal’) should be planted in full sun where it is sheltered. It will suffer if planted in shade. The sun should help keep fungal diseases away and the shelter allows it to thrive and not be wind swept.

Lavender ‘Phenomenal’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Phenomenal’) is of great benefit to wildlife. With a large amount of nectar and pollen it attracts many bees, birds, butterflies, moths and other pollinators. It is not poisonous to livestock, however can be poisonous to horse.

Lavender ‘Phenomenal’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Phenomenal’) can be planted effectively in many situations. It is perfectly situated in Mediterranean or English style gardens, informal, cottage, low maintenance, courtyard or city gardens. It also does well in containers. It does very well as a dwarf hedge, dividing parts of the garden or lining pathways.

We offer Lavender ‘Phenomenal’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Phenomenal’) in both 2 and 5 litre pots.
