Luzula nivea (Snow Rush) is a versatile, slow spreading, clump forming, evergreen perennial. It has the appearance of a grass though it is not but due to its appearance we have it in both our perennial and grass sections. It has rich, dark green leaves growing to approximately 30cm in length, contrasted by pure white flowers in summer, held on tall stems.
Luzula nivea (Snow Rush) is very flexible as to where it can grow. It is unfussy about the temperature in the UK, with a RHS hardiness rating of H5. This means it is hardy throughout even the most severe winters when tempretures ranging between -15 and -10C. Not only this and not to be confused with the hardiness rating, it can survive exposed positions. It can survive in full sun to deep shade and loves moist soils and is generally disease and pest free making it exceptional for ground cover due to its versatility and goes well with Campanula, Geraniums and Astrantia which can be found on our perennial page.
Luzula nivea (Snow Rush) is generally low maintenance. All the work it requires is simply combing out the dead leaves in spring, this allows them to provide protection over the winter.
