About Monk’s Hood

A handsome, architectural perennial with deeply cut dark-green leaves and tall, upright stems topped by spikes of distinctive hooded flowers in deep indigo-blue. It adds welcome height and structure to a border.

It flowers in summer and is happy in sun or partial shade, and unusually for such a showy plant it will grow in moister, shadier spots where many perennials sulk.

Important: all parts are highly poisonous if eaten, and the sap can irritate skin — wear gloves when handling and keep well away from children and pets.
