Umineko is the Japanese name for the white-tailed seagull, a reference to the brilliant white blossom of this cherry; the English name, snow goose, points at exactly the same thing.
It is upright and columnar — more of a pillar than a spreading tree. It broadens a little with maturity but stays within about 3m across at most, which makes it a genuinely useful cherry for a garden that has height to spare but not width.
The blossom opens in April: single, brilliant white flowers with long tassel anthers and pink stamens at the centre, which really do look like splashes of red ink dropped onto white petals. Those centres deepen to pink and purple as the flowers age, so the display shifts over the weeks rather than staying static. The leaves open at the same time and give a fresh green backdrop to the white and pink.
In autumn it turns again, to warm shades of marmalade and crimson amber. Full sun, any aspect, and any soil that drains freely.
