Salvia nemosa can be found naturally from Europe to as far afield as Siberia and Afganistan. It has a RHS hardiness rating of H7, meaning it can survive temperatures below -20C, it can also survive in very exposed positions. It produces captivating, deep violet flower spikes in early summer from June until August. Salvia nemosa ‘Blauhugel’ (Salvia Blue Hills) does well in full sun but can tolerate partial to light shade.

Salvia nemosa ‘Blauhugel’ (Salvia Blue Hills) is truly fantastic plant, perfect for many situations including: Mediterranean; city and courtyard; costal; cottage & informal; patio & containers; flower borders, wall side borders; costal; and beds and formal gardens. It can pair well with formal edging (low dividing hedges) or grasses such as Stipa tenuisima. They also contrast nicely with other forms of Salvias, such as the white Salvia schneehügel.
As flowers turn and begin to fade cut them off, this will prolong the flowering period.
