Lavender ‘Alba’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Alba’) is very capable of tolerating neglect, once established, it tolerates droughts well due to where it originates. However contrary to popular belief, lavender actually likes water though it just does not like sitting in it. Therefore, well drained soil is essential. This can also be mitigated by planting proud and/or improving the soil around the lavender, for instance by putting compost in the area around it.

Lavender ‘Alba’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Alba’) is an intermedia variety. This is a hybrid between a broad leafed (Latifolia) lavender and narrow leafed (Angustifolia or English) lavender. They are slightly hardier than the English (Angustifolia) varieties and have an RHS Hardiness rating of H5 meaning it can tolerate temperatures down to -15 to -10C and is hardy through most parts of the UK. However, try and put it in a sheltered position as it does not like being exposed to cold winds.
